There are many ways which maybe adopted for washing of Block Printed Clothes.
Salt & vinegar solutions
Of course, the classic trick of washing similar colours together isn’t going to work with block printed clothing. One method that some people swear by is soaking the clothes in a salt or vinegar solution before washing. The theory is that regular table salt or white distilled vinegar can encourage the colours to be absorbed by the fibers of the clothing, making them less prone to running in the wash. Fill a basin with cold water, and add your chosen ingredient – there’s really no rule to how much to add, but about one cup of vinegar or a few tablespoons of salt per basin should be adequate. Allow it to soak for around 30 minutes before washing.
Cool water only
Washing with hot water is very common across the world, because hot water has been found to kill germs and clean clothes much better than warm or cool water. However, hot water can also increase the risk of colors bleeding in the wash. For soiled clothing, don’t go above a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius, and for clothes that aren’t physically dirty but are in need of a freshen up, an even cooler wash will suffice. Basically, opt for as cool a wash as you can get away with.
Inside out & a light load
Turning your garments inside out won’t prevent colours from bleeding into each other, but it will reduce the amount that runs. As the colour isn’t on the outside, where it can rub against the washing machine drum, it is far more likely to stay put. Similarly, when washing block printed clothing, don’t be tempted to completely fill your machine. The fuller your machine is, the more likely it is that the clothing will rub against the drum. A lighter load allows for more freedom, helping the colours stay in place.
Use your dryer
In normal circumstances, using a dryer isn’t recommended. However, with block printed clothing, it’s best to get the garment dry as quickly as possible. The longer it’s wet, the longer the colours can run. If you are dealing with a delicate material, make good use of your washing machine’s spin cycle to remove as much excess water as possible; you may even find your hairdryer to be useful in speeding up the drying process. If you do need to air dry, lay the garment down flat on towels, rather than hanging it from a line, to keep the colours in place.
Treat stains fast!
Unfortunately, as careful as we may be, accidents do happen! If you notice that your colours have bled, treat the stains as soon as possible with a dedicated stain remover, or with a small amount of liquid detergent massaged into the fibers. The quicker you tackle these stains, the easier they are to remove. Follow these tips, and you can keep your Hollywood-style block clothing looking bright and bold for years!
